Question of the day

The other day, in a hotel nearby, some people in charge of the music industry decided that Coldplay’s Viva La Vida was the best song of the year.

And already about a month ago, in another hotel nearby, some people in charge of the film industry had decided that Slumdog Millionaire was the best film of the year.

Sometimes I wonder if they’re not taking us for twerps.

Slumdog Millionaire? How the hell did that get so much kudos? Saw it the other day, it was just another formulaic Hollywood blockbuster, with all the standard ingredients - thwarted love that wins through, slum-ridden foreign city, violence and torture, rags to riches etc etc. Movie-making by numbers. No merit whatever.

Yes, they are very much taking us for twerps.

I quite liked Slumdog Millionaire, but Coldplay make me want to chew my own ears off.

Nick: Slumdog looks like it's going to get the Oscar, too...

Andrew: I didn't mind Slumdog, I just do net get all the buzz. As for Coldplay I am stunned that people still bother listening to them
