The doctor was very clear.
“Mr Major” he told me “you need surgery”, a sentence that ranks pretty high in the list of top sentences you don’t want to hear on the phone.
I quickly wiped a tear and got myself together to ask him if he was really sure. Aparently, yes. 14 years of med school, of night shifts, of flirting with nurses and playing golf with his colleagues, everything made him certain.
“You could have surgery in April”
There was a blank in the conversation.
“You mean in April this year ?”
